My blog is set up primarily to provide information about the book I am working on. I am not seeking reviews on my book, but I would like to know what you guys think about the basic set up of my blog. Anything that needs changing?
Please be kind. Like many others here, I am extremely new to all of this.
Thanks!

Hi!
I found your blog very easy to navigate, something of which I'm still working on, two months later.... :)

Enough white space so that it isn't cluttered, and I'm one of those who like the two-column page, like you have.

Your nice looks really clean and I love the picture at the top. Maybe you want to use some colored fonts in the posts, just to mix it up a bit.

I've always been a larger fan of Blogspot, then Wordpress, if only because I was first shown Blogspot and there are just a few small differences that make Blogger more appealing to me. However, that really isn't a criticism, but instead an idle remark...

I find most of the blog appealing, but in a vanilla, there's nothing specific that makes it good way. Which is a good thing, don't get me wrong, because Lord knows there's enough blogs out there that make me want to gouge out my eye balls; yet, I would hope you add something specific that people can identify your blog with, easily.

For instance, maybe search up on Google for a famous painting, or picture, and slightly edit it (Add you blog name to it) so that whenever people see that picture in real life, or struggle to remember something about your blog - they have a faintly compelling reason to move onto your blog. In essence, it's called by psychologists the availability heuristic (http://clk.about.com/?zi=3/1bM&sdn=psychology&cdn=education&tm=3&gps=531_339_1676_849&f=10&tt=22&bt=0&bts=0&st=31&zu=http%3A//psychology.about.com/sitesearch.htm%3FTopNode%3D99%26SUName%3Dpsycholog y%26terms%3Dheuristic), what you want to inspire in people's minds is one specific, awesome, image...

While your overall design, and even your current (single) image on the blog isn't bad... I would consider adding something a little bit more funny, insightful, and/or generally charming than a image that looks - by and far - ripped off one of those default images Microsoft installs on new computers.

Neat that you should say that, because I was just looking at that picture last night and wondering what I could use that would be more reflective of what my site and my book are about. Basically, my book is about death, about honoring and remembering those who have passed away, and about learning from them. Not sure what kind of an image would capture that. I thought about a cemetery, but the finality of death is not what I am trying to get across. Any ideals?

So, I changed the banner picture on my blog. I wanted it to reflect my book and the purpose of the blog a little more.
I chose a bridge because the image I want to portray is the infinity of death, that there is another side, that life goes on, and also that the letters in the book are "bridges" from one side to the other, if that makes any sense. What do you think? Does the bridge portray infinity? Does that come across? If not, any suggestions about what kind of image might "say" what I am trying to say?

Wow, Nice.

Your blog is easy looking on the eye because of the minimalist colours and organisation of the side bars. Your banner is beautiful, even though it does look a bit speckled.

I like your favicon, is that a picture of your son/daughter?

I wish you well with your blog. :)

Thank you for your comments. Yes, it is my son. He turned one year old the 5th of this month. He's our pride and joy!
Thanks again!

To be honest I read the picture as generic pretty scenery.

Like the quote at the top - get what your book is about in that one sentence.

The quote at the top is my favorite! The picture I see right now is about a bottle floating in a river... like that too even though it looks a bit fuzzy.

Thank you!
I decided on this picture to try and capture the ideal of a message trying to find its way to someone...that kind of goes along with the theme for my book.
I checked your sites out and really like your stuff, too. I especially like Sidewalk Diving - it was nicely laid out and very inspiring. Would you mind if I add a link to it on my blogroll?
Thanks again!

Nope, I don't mind at all :) Sidewalk Diving was a blog I just set up a few days ago, in fact. Thanks!
