According to President Obama's tax return...
http://media.mcclatchydc.com/smedia/2009/04/15/17/Talev-2009-Obama-1040.source.prod_affiliate.91.pdf
Mr. Obama paid $841,000 toward his 2008 taxes in 2007. This seems.... VERY hard to believe to me. Based on that figure, Mr. Obama was expected to have a return of 26,000... which he applied to 2009's taxes.
Does that suggest that he received an 841,000 tax return last year?
This seems fishy to me, doesn't it to you?
Wow, and received DIVIDENDS of 26K last year. Man's got a shitload of money in the market.
I'd be interested to see if his 2007 tax return really did put nearly a million dollars aside for his 2008 tax year.

And so begins another conspiracy theory.

Hmm...I didn't realize being a candidate paid so well. Maybe I'll run for something.

Maybe I don't understand it, but what I see is that Mr. Obama was making quarterly tax payments based on his business income (since he's self-employed.) His business made over 2million in income for him and his wife, and he paid taxes on that income. Page 5 of the PDF shows the income from the business and the installments he paid towards the taxes.
I believe it. And given his apparent position on government programs, etc, it makes sense that he would believe in paying those taxes (since taxes pay for the gov't programs.)
My two cents.

So what seems fishy? That he made a lot of money (particularly with books)? Or, that he, even though he is a politician, actually paid his taxes?
;)

One of the few in the Obama administration who did. Obviously, he didn't let his Treasury Secretary do his tax paperwork for him!

Careful now, the non taxpaying public servants sit on both sides of the aisle. hmmm Maybe we could charge them for using the seats.
So why's a guy who makes that kind of money want a job that pays a measly $400k? :D

No, not really...It would be fishy if he ended up paying the same amount of tax as I did this year.

Depending on what he had investments in and when, THAT could be the fishier story to jump on...

Clair, I think you're totally right...
The box says "2008 tax payments made AND amount withheld from 2007 taxes." -- That 800K's his quarterly tax payments through the year.
My bad.
Sorry everyone. False alarm.

But but but- it was cleared BEFORE Godwin's Law! That's not fair! I wanted to be the first one to put up a funny image representing Godwin's Law!

I could draw a little hitler mustache on your doggie avatar. Would that help? ^_^

That should be the subject line of every thread you ever start.

Isn't that what you've got sewn onto the waistband of your underwear?
Touche.
It's also what the managers at the local buffets tell their cooks everytime you drive by.

That's more a statement on how good those buffet cooks are than a statement on DC.
Now, both of you, stop this sparring before I must get Stopmy Benjamin Franklin to come down and use his cybernetic arms to throw you both into the sky prison.

Zoom, Zoom, and it's not a Mazda comercial.
Mac is stormy, but she, not he, most certainly isn't Ben Franklin, she had cyber arms long before your scientists ever considered the concept, she probably inspired it. Now as far as 'sky prison' is concerned, that's up to Mac.
But I like the idea of 'sky prison' instead of 'banned'.
Y'all calm down.
We're not sparring.

It's threads like this where the conservatives really look like fools, and completely discredit themselves from any future debates.
I like threads like this. It's threads like that that help me spot the people who are just looking for reasons to criticize Obama, so that I can write them off in future threads from those that have real, valid criticisms of Obama.

you should take a page from dclary's posting style, james, because even when he's obnoxious and offensive, he's still funny and likeable.

Much like the threads where people are just looking for reasons to praise him... :)
