All,
Just finished another rewrite of my icky bug, The Greenhouse. My mentor Carol was a real hero with her read-through and critique. I was originally doing it for laughs and horror, but the horror factor was more important so I redid the focus, kept some of the humor, but made it a bit more serious, especially for the human bad guy.
The Greenhouse is pure icky bug. It is NOT vampire, werewolf, or mummy. It is a plant posessed by a demon. I'm quite happy with it and I'm now hoping an agent will feel the same way as I do. We'll see.
Anyway... I just wanted to point all this out because of my mentor and great friend, Carol, who took the time to read though the whole thing, and not just disjointed snippets. Her insight gave me some great feedback to work with, and I was able to improve the story.
It is my wish here to let you all know how valuable a reader can be. Network! Find others willing to go through your work to look at the big picture. It could make a lot of difference!
I also recommend finding someone that is honest but diplomatic. You don't need one of those "tough love" types. You already have enough grief in your life!
