To many this little move is no surprise as part of overall government growth and power over its subjects. A trade law--or treaty if you prefer--would allow the government to fetch your digital collection for no reason.
We're all in for so much fun with the Obama group.

Could you give a little summary, Andrew?
It takes forever and a day for a vid to load on dial up.
Explain the crux of the situation.
thx.

The gist of it (without editorial comment from me):
A "secret" international copyright/trade agreement between the US and some European nations that would allow the US government to search laptops, MP2 players, etc. for copyrighted* material (such as at an airport screening) and confiscate it. There is also the hint of "big brother" about the whole thing and that maybe the government won't just be looking for pirated material such as songs and software, but for personal data. According to the video the Obama administration is considering the treaty for national security reasons.

I suppose some governments have to feed into thier own paranoia and will use any source in which to do it. If they spy on my computer, they'll find two photographs of cars that have been blown up by car bombs. Did I plan them? Am I planning to do a car bomb in the future? Am I a terrorist? The simple answer is NO; I just wanted these pictures so that I could describe a scene in my latest novel, as I have never actually seen a blown up car.
