Perfection.
More inanimate objects need to be sources for political satire.
Nixon's tape recorder, Reagan's jelly bean jar, George W Bush.

i think it can provide some real insights into the president, given the amount of time they spend together.

I'm gonna start my own blog for Joe Biden's shoe.
Being that it's in his mouth so often, it should have some serious insights.

President Obama’s speech at the National Academy of Sciences Monday morning hit a brief snag when Obama got ahead of his script.
Laying his plan for a President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, Obama began to name the members of PCAST listed in his prepared remarks – before realizing he’d already introduced them, earlier in his speech.
“In addition to John – sorry, the – I just noticed I jumped the gun here,” Obama said, pausing for several seconds as he looked at the prompter. “Go ahead. Move it up. I had already introduced all you guys.”
The audience, which gave the president a warm reception, responded with a quiet laugh.

For my own clarification- is it good or bad that he uses a teleprompter?

Is it good or bad that Jay Leno does the same thing? That's show biz. And Obama shouldn't be faulted. He's trying to do a massive amount in a very short time. I don't expect him to remember every word of every prepared speech. It's not like he's on Broadway with the same run.
Besides, he can read. Should we fault him for that??

Teleprompter better enjoy the gig while he can. I wonder how far we are away from just "uploading the speech" directly into someone's head?

Or downloading a speech (that was never made) directly into our memories.

As it turns out, they were doing that to Bush for the last six years of his Presidency.
What? I thought we needed some balance...

Sometimes you have to speak from the heart - with real passion.
I don't think using a teleprompter allows this in most cases.
Plus the good ones are able to use the prompter without being obvious about it.

The hell with teleprompters, speeches should be scribbled onto index cards, or printed out on 8.5x11" paper in 20-pt. font.

Hey, those 10 year olds are viscious with their health care questions. For example, the President still hasn't answered if the unversal coverage will cover lollipops.
I wouldn't want to face that without a teleprompter.

okay. who did it?
fess up.
HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – NBC12 has uncovered one of those stories that makes you think: "How in the world does that happen?!" A truck filled with President Obama's podiums and audio equipment was stolen in Henrico just days before his visit to Chesterfield.
We confirmed an investigation with the U.S. Defense Department. There are still a lot of questions. The biggest one being did the thieves intentionally target the President's truck or did they take advantage of a crime of opportunity and give a big "uh-oh" when they saw what was inside.
When you see President Obama speak, there is a pretty typical setup including the presidential seal on a podium, the see-thru Teleprompter and a portable sound system.
Thieves saw the truck carrying that equipment and couldn't resist the target.

Don’t be ridiculous!!! Why would Hank Jr. steal a teleprompter!! We all know he can’t read!!
Let's see... they can't protect the President of the United States' teleprompter from a truck thief, but if we're all good citizens and give up our rights, they can protect 300 million of us from terrorists.
Right.

i'd feel a little bit better if he could address 10 year-olds without one, yes.He can, so no worries. President Obama is an excellent off-the-cuff speaker. He did not -- sorry, let me be clear -- HE DID NOT USE A TELEPROMPTER TO SPEAK TO A CLASS OF SIXTH-GRADERS. He talked with the kids face-to-face, no prompter, then, in a different room, spoke to the press pool, with a teleprompter.
I think every president since Eisenhower has used a teleprompter at times; I don't know of any evidence Obama uses one more often than the average. I do know that he can speak intelligently about complex subjects without one.
Public speaking is a special skill, one that a lot of otherwise very capable and intelligent people don't have. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton could both give better speeches off-the-cuff than most people can with a week of preparation. George W. Bush fumbled and floundered a lot, but I don't think that really means much. Joe Biden seems to lack a filter between his brain and his mouth.
Even a lot of trained actors sound as lame and goofy as anyone else, if they haven't been able to prepare.
Still, having the President's teleprompter have its own blog is a decent satirical idea, regardless of the president.

Yes, you would say, but of course, that's just your opinion.
Obama went to the Republicans conference last year and spoke to the GOP caucus. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUzxvIXHz0g&feature=relmfu) He acquitted himself well.
And yes, he did so without a teleprompter.
