View Full Version : What did you do today?

When you weren't obsessively refreshing the boards, what did you do today? I helped socialize month-old barn kittens that are destined for new homes.
A few of the kittens have just figured out how to hiss. They are so not vicious when they do that, even the solid black one my mother started calling 'Vicious' because he was the first one to figure it out and sat in a corner of the large cage with his siblings and cousins hissing repeatedly until I reached in and pulled him out. It really became ineffective when he immediately started crying. And then there was the one that only cried when I tried to peel her off my shoulder and put her back in the cage. And she's the biggest kitten from all three litters and the only long-hair of the bunch. Such a toughie when she's not trying to knock someone else away from the milk supply.

I wasn't here :) I had lunch with some friends, took a much needed long nap (3 hours, hehe), went to play tennis, looked at BMW's (ahhh, to dream) and just ate dinner. It was a pretty good day, overall.

i took the kids to get their hair cut.
went to target, got the boy some swim goggles, and the daughter and wife hair color.
wrote a poem during the drive home.
posted the new poem.
went back and removed all of my poems from the poetry forum, including the new poem.
wrote a diatribe about the results we're still waiting for (24 hours and counting...)
ate dinner while i made some revisions to a stupid screenplay i'm writing.
checked for results and smoked a lot of cigarettes throughout.

Birol, Nice try, but I it looks like nobody wants to even think about it!
If everyone stays disgruntled, I'll just have to overnight them a kitten or one of their not-so-vicious mothers. The mothers have a tendency to run at strangers, flop at their feet, and roll over onto their backs forcing anyone visiting the almost-stepfather's farm to scratch their bellies. Their babies are just starting to learn this trick.

I read a Salad Tea Bag quote today.
Poise--the art of raising an eyebrow instead of the roof.
Obviously, my evil twin didn't think it was humorous.

I researched cockatoos for an assignment that is due next Friday. Even headed out to do a couple of photo shoots but decided to put them off for a week. Interesting stuff, no? No. :D

Then, I made breakfast for Mom.
Wrote some of my column.
Posted in various threads.
Read two chapters in a book.
Made lunch for Mom.
Wrote more on my column.
Watched my brother mow the grass, and get his lawnmower stuck in mud up to the axles. (Now that made my day!)
Did five loads of laundry.
Wrote more of my column.
Posted in various threads in between checking for results.
Took Mom for a walk around the yard.
Let her dog out and back in about 30 times.
Finished my column.
Read another chapter in a book.
Made dinner.
Ate.
Watched parts of A General's Daughter in between checking for results.
Came back here.
And oh yes, here's the killer--I went off the wagon after 34 days and lit up and smoked several cigarettes with William. (Outside my mom's house, of course.)

I went to work and muddled through a ton of paperwork. Drove home, checked the boards. Ate dinner. Checked for results. Vacuumed. Broke the vacuum. Checked for results, found none, posted in the disgruntled thread. Called my mother. Scooped kitty litter boxes. Checked for results, found out that I was accused of being the vote bot :) Smiled, and posted here.
Still waiting...

Yes, 34 days. I quit April 1. And I didn't quit at 10, either! ROFL AND I don't feel one bit guilty.
EDIT: It was 65 days. ROFL

Hmm today was a beautiful hot and humid day
I went out and played for a while @ Barnes and Nobles.
Ate lunch at one of my favorite seafood restaurants.
Had crawfish etouffee', and fried catfish.
Came home and hung out here at the AW,
Did some writing; about 1300 words.
Watched a lil' television. Lifetime was kicking butt all evening.
Mom came over and made her famous banana bread pudding.
We watched a lil' more television. She left.
I'm here hanging out with you all again.
After this, back to writing and then off to bed.
9 days left of vacation...I'm loving it!

Woke up and went back to bed.
Woke up and got out of bed.
Had coffee.
Went for a hike.
Went for brunch [salmon benedict and a mimosa].
Went to the weird postal annex to pick up a package.
Mimosa made me sleepy, so I took a nap for two hours.
Made some phone calls for work.
Watered the lawn.
Started a huge photo project that must be done tomorrow.
Reviewed the TV listings and decided that I would, under no circumstances, watch "The Facts of Life Reunion," even as background noise.
Currently watching a movie, "The Last Shot," on DVD as I resize images and code html. It's much better than "The Facts of Life."

I had a nap, and dreamed that my book editor gave me a low-slung Harley Davidson to negotiate down a crooked little forested path, but wouldn't let me use the clutch, or put my feet anywhere on the bike, as it was freshly painted.
It made no sense at all, as my book does not yet HAVE an editor...

It's really strange. My dad doesn't sleep much either. He said one day in his 20's something clicked over and he stopped sleeping. Same with me. 2 years ago, I just stopped being able to get a full nights sleep.
During a lovely week or two in April/May, I slept 6 hours a night, but my minds been too full to do that lately. Oh well...

Today--being Sunday (which on calendars, is the beginning of the week) I have:
Tiptoed around since 7 am as to not wake Mom.
Made a pot of coffee.
Walked the half mile of my Mom's driveway to get the Sunday newspaper. (A mile walk today.)
Smoked two cigarettes while enjoying two cups of coffee.
Made my bed.
Then came here.
I'll keep you posted as Time Goes On. LOL

Along the lines of what Joanne said...
Had a cigarette without the coffee flavour
Cleaned the coffee machine so I wouldn't have the above experience again
Cleaned the kitchen while the coffee brewed
What am I supposed to be doing today? That's a different story:
Writing a review of Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Picking up a DVD copy of Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Writing a DVD review of Ferris Bueller's Day Off (we don't have one on the site)
Reviewing the first part of the 17 hours that makes up the third season DVD set of Northern Exposure (I have the week to do this)
Sorting through the responses to my ProfNet queries, deciding which ones I want to use
Turning my notes into six actual queries for magazines I was supposed to pitch two weeks ago
Writing sample responses to a phone (job) interview I have coming up this week
And most pleasantly...
Cleaning the apartment because I have a friend coming over to watch the Tony Awards tonight
Hmm... bet the coffee's brewed :D

In a nutshell, here's what I did yesterday:
Woke husband up at 4 am, per instructions (re: kids out of school means no afternoon time). Slept intermittantly between dog and cat interruptions until about 9 am.
Made coffee - checked email. Did all the duties related my selling online - packaging, etc.
Took children to a nearby town to search for books to sell online. (Bought 40).
Came home, listed books...........waited for mailman so I could hand him a large package.
Missed mailman.
16 year old daughter prepared Mac N Cheese for lunch, while I fried green plaintains. Ate lunch.
Took 30 minute nap.
Went to store to buy meat for grill .............and bread.
Came home and started grill.
Started book "The Los Angeles Diaries" by James Brown - a memoir - not by the singer James Brown.
Put food on grill and continued to read.
Ate dinner.
Took bikeride with husband and 8 year old in nearby State park - for the 5th night in a row.
Came home - cleaned kitchen - took shower.
Drove to bank in nightgown to get money for husband.
Did online work - tried to write an article for Fine Tuning - wasted an hour - didn't finish it.
Layed on sofa with book and read.
Took Excedrin PM at midnight - and went to bed.
Doesn't look like today will be anymore productive. If it doesn't rain - I'll take kids to Y to swim.
I need to clean my office.

Yesterday at the day job:
Nuked boss's computer deliberately, reinstalled older operating system
went to Gateway's site, downloaded all the drivers, etc. for older operating system
ran out of time, so on Monday I have to pick up where I left off
went to our other store in the next town and set up two of their computers to print to networked copiers
configured their firewall to make VPN connection to main store. Fainted dead away when it worked.
came home, wife and I fired up the ol' DVD player and watched 5 season 4 episodes of Babylon5 back to back. Everytime they blew up a spaceship, thought about the boss. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Your comment makes me smile. Thanks.
Honest, it's all in a mom's day's routine, if that's what's called for by a kid's situation. There've been days when I go back and forth between my kids' schools four times because someone was sick, someone needed clean clothes, someone forgot their viola - whatever. I don't ALWAYS go when they think I should, but often, I do. It depends on how "tragic" the situation is (and what the repercussions will be if I do versus if I don't help out).
I guess I was thinking, productive in the personal sense - of me and my writing and the things I'd like to get in order.

Yes we are lucky! We chose this practice because of their accessibility. And when we left their office, there were five more families waiting to be seen! The nurses told me everyone had been in forthe same thing so far - sore throat/fever. And not one of them had tested positive for strep.
