View Full Version : What do you look for in a literary blog?

A few days ago I started a literary blog. I'm a professional writer, but also an opinionated individual who does not get out much (or not as much as I'd like to); so I thought it might be fun to hold forth on various writing/publishing-related subjects and invite people to throw brickbats at me (cyber brick bats are a lot less painful than real ones).
I'd be delighted to hear from literary folk about what they look for in a literary blog... confessions? tips? industry gossip? topics for debate? Are there any existing literary blogs that you find yourself checking out? If so, what are they?
Any ideas very gratefully received!
You can see what there is so far at the blog...

Many thanks in anticipation.

Looks like an interesting blog so far.
The only thing that really popped into my head was that I'd be interested in regular features where you breakdown the openings from new upcoming novels, pointing out what works and why etc. I'm talking about new releases, ie stuff from this year and well written books in the charts, not classics or best-sellers from 5+ years ago. Maybe someone does this already and I've been missing out but /shrug.
If you do this on a regular basis, it will keep someone like me coming back for updates. Plus it'l save me trips to the book shop where I do this anyway.

I like blogs with a sense of humor.
I really liked how Miss Snark's blog was 85% about writing and publishing but then the other 15% was about other random things.
Pointers for catching an agent's attention would be helpful.
Really, I think that you should just post what you enjoy bloging about. If you enjoy blogging it then your readers will most likely enjoy reading it.

Thank you. Good point. I will definitely address the agent question soon. It seems to be a 'hot button' issue, as they say in politics... In fact, maybe today, if I get time. So watch this (or rather, that) space...
