Okay, voting has now commenced! (Sorry I was away.)
Unfortunately, we're losing trumancoyote this week. Deadline notwithstanding, it was the word count issue that disqualified him, and I have a feeling Zach wanted this to be his swan song in the competition anyway. Hugs, Zach, and don't be a stranger. You have lots of fans and love here!
So, you have 5 entries to choose from.
Please read the entries here: http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12881
And send your vote to Melina by Private Message by Friday, June 3 at 10 p.m. ET.: http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&userid=201
Good luck, finalists!

I've eaten breakfast, mowed the lawn, worked on my WIP, and the results still aren't here?
Sigh.

Last week we waited 16 hours for the results. :Hammer:
We're now 42 minutes from that same time today. :)

the period between the vote deadline and the notification is, by far, the worst part of the whole experience.
even worse than the hate-mail.

Melina's doing a great job.
(But maybe next time it might be better to have a vote counter who lives in the same timezone as the deadline and doesn't work the night shift...)

Melina's doing a great job.
You bet. She's a saint for taking it on. It's just so nerve-wracking waiting, I can only imagine how the contestants feel.

I applaud Melina for taking on the job of vote counter. Nothing against her at all.
And I agree with you brinkett, that it might be more feasible to have the vote counter in the same time zone as the contest deadline.
A suggestion for next year's contest: Since the contestants have an entry deadline, and the voters have a voting deadline, maybe we could have a result deadline that is a bit more timely.
If the results are compiled as they come in, even if 75% of the votes come in a few minutes before or at 10 pm, the count still could be done within an hour, two at the most. Especially with only 100-130 voters.

no offense to melina, because she's got a life of her own and a night job, and she was wonderful to even take on the task fo being vote counter.
but i agree with this sentiment. it's only fair really.

Fire, I thought I heard teeth grinding! Wow...you sure are loud! I'll eat your hat if you don't go on to the next round! So, put those teeth to rest right now!

Fire, I thought I heard teeth grinding! Wow...you sure are loud! I'll eat your hat if you don't go on to the next round! So, put those teeth to rest right now!Aw, thanks KTC. It's involuntary, though when I notice the grinding or clenching, I can try to relax the muscles. Usually my first signal is a headache.
Hope your hat is straw, just in case (fiber is more nutritive than... whatever the hell they make other hats out of ;))

seriously, i just thought of something (and someone might have posted this already) . . .
melina's computer was down last week, and it might still be down now. so that might be it right there.
and then . . . william never posted his faux winners/waiting for results thread. his lack of decorum could have broken the cycle . . . will, post that thread to make the waiting stop.
