View Full Version : Is Poetry Crit broken?

Where is everybody? KTC, Poet, Stew, Godfather, Steppe (who's been AWOL for like three weeks).

Poetry crit's activity has shrunk by like, half.

I miss you guys.

And at half it's still more active than any other site I visit regularly or semi-regularly.

I'm always around but I don't feel comfortable making more than just a quick comment or two. The level of competence and experience in this forum is outstanding and I generally try to stay out of the way. I agree with Norman though this is a very active site.

I'm still looking, my tears are falling into the pit and disturbing the alligators, and them gators don't look friendly.

KTC
02-10-2009, 04:10 AM
feiss,
her tears
are being eaten
by poetry
reading gators.
something
in that notion
sounds intrusively
like poetics.

Feiss
02-10-2009, 04:11 AM
don't fear
any poetics
are just
crocodile tears
fat and gelatinous
on my tendony ankles.

KTC
02-10-2009, 04:14 AM
gelatinous tears
fall so very tenderly
on the ankles,
makes them glisten
in the light
falling from the trees.
and those stilettos,
how they kick the poets,
and then she says,
"don't fear",
like they don't know
what comes next.

Feiss
02-10-2009, 04:16 AM
I'll find you a corner
tucked in
our round room
where you can
sit
and cry
the alligator's jaw
is full of sharp corners
and don't fear
if you've run out
of tears
they'll make you
cry
if you've ever
bled.

KTC
02-10-2009, 04:18 AM
i'll run my tiny fingers
against its lithe-like jaw
just to taunt
its deathly grip,
i'll spin and twist
as it tears me in two,
but the sharp corners,
they'll never hurt me.
they are cushioned
by soft words.

Feiss
02-10-2009, 04:21 AM
the difference
between hurt
and hurt
is the same
as a saw-sharp tooth
and a sleek silk noose

real life work is kicking my ass. ANd now I'm so far behind I don't know how I'll catch up.
Last week (after I pledged 10 to Godfather's thread) I managed to crit 7. The entire week (which is WEAK for me).

As soon as real life is under control I'll do my best.

KTC

a noose may rub
the wrong way,
but joy of joys
it knows how,
more than bullets
and knifes,
to get the job done.

The job was done
when you wrapped
your hands
in printed silks
to protect
from cheap sandpaper
that you used
to sand a square room
into a round,
white
peach
of poetic sanctuary.

I've been fighting a staph infection that's covered my hands and face with ugly red sores, and caused terrible pain in my joints.

That's why I've pretty much only had those two emergency room poems, and a meager handful of reviews.

AW.

I felt kind of like a drunk old chinese poet, sitting in a canoe, yelling at my other poet friend, also in a canoe, spitting wine and verse at each other

We have to keep a log of it, and then print out copies and tape it on random corners and tape them on bus stops.

KTC
02-10-2009, 05:45 AM
That too sounds grand.

Did you know that in Canada...across the entire country they have an event called RANDOM ACTS OF POETRY...where they do just that. And they stop people on the street and read them poetry and hand out books of poetry. It's divine, divine, divine, Miss. AND it's government funded. Take a look: http://national-random-acts-of-poetry.blogspot.com/

We should do a Random Acts of Poetry across the AW landscape! YES! Pop them into random threads!

YES. I am all for artistic guerilla warfare. I tried to start this "coalition for beautiful things" and tape shadow boxes all over the place and stuff, but no one joined, so I just cried, in my octagonal room, that had plenty of corners.

I didn't know I could get in trouble for posting poetry in non-poetry threads. I was in one thread, reading through some deep stuff (for me), and inserted a poem of mine that I felt reflected the discussion and my thoughts on what they were talking about. Here's the link to show you what I mean:

http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126280&page=3

I really appreciated how I was received there, the ones that replied were very supportive of me participating and of my poem.

KTC

I was just stating a what if, Kid. I wouldn't want to post poetry in a thread and be accused of derailing. Mayhaps we could post poetry that relates to topic in threads...but that could get tiring. I was thinking more like just stepping in dropping a poem and leaving. (-;

Dichroic

My suggestions would be:
1) check with MacAllister first.
2) Do it like a flashmob: lots of careful planning, very short execution time: Get a bunch of people involved and then drop short poems randomly over the site within a very short timeframe, maybe even only an hour or two. In each post, include note that says something like "This is part of the Poetry Guerilla Project" with a link to a post explaining the project.

Would you use published or original poems?

Feiss
02-10-2009, 08:16 AM
we could use both, or themes for the day!

I once saw a shadow box
lifted high against the sky
I wondered who in hell
placed it there,

when he
went out to sea
in a grand old boat
that smelled of coffee,
exclaimed he
'it was me it was me'

Feiss
02-10-2009, 10:44 PM
actually it was she
and a coalition
for beautiful things
who shaded KTC's face
with a shadowbox
in outerspace.

Godfather
02-10-2009, 10:46 PM
as well she might
for when it came night
it turned out
he was mad -
they were all broken now,
every word
he'd ever said

Feiss

How many bristles
does a man need

all the words

Godfather
02-11-2009, 12:07 AM
he had no bristles

only more words
to add to the mess

dclary

they lay cluttered on
the floor
where they'd
fallen
from the page
until a child
found them
and whilst playing
discovered something
new.

Godfather
02-11-2009, 02:08 AM
something new -
the word she picked up when she was two
waiting for years,
stolen and sad
no one knew -
borrowed and blue

KTC
02-11-2009, 02:20 AM
a word wrapped
in tinsel, when two
will fray at the seams,
split in threes.
but oh the ways
in which she can use it,
froth and anger
will let her spew
the pretty word
she ate when two.

Feiss

If I had a horn
I'd blow it loud.
I'd stir the ones
who graced these
grounds.

If I had a broom
I'd sweep it over
the dust
that has gathered
inevitable and gentle.

If I had a basin
of clear mountain water
I'd pour it over
your sleeping hands
and we'd write
the whole world over.
