I think there's a big audience for filk songs, Ace -

Filk conventions, the Pegasus Awards and a multitude of fabulous filk songs attest to the popularity of the form. Here's a link to the Pegasus Awards (http://www.ovff.org/pegasus/index.html)home page

Filk. Now there's one I hadn't thought about.

I always did enjoy writing song parodies.

Thanks, Kate.

Correction: filk is not exclusively humorous, not when the talented Seanan Macguire (http://seananmcguire.com/songbook.php?id=294) is winning Pegasus Awards. It may have begun as parody but the definition's expanded.

I've done humor sci fi poetry before, as it stands on its own its hit or miss for the potential audience (some people get it, some don't). Though I included it in a bigger anthology of poems which worked out well.

I also think if you focused exclusively on this type of poetry and built a book around it, you could find readers. Just for the reason that there is no market for it and it would be something different.

There is too much sameness in the creative world these days. Anyone that can present something different (in a cohesive and readable manner of course) is like a breath of fresh air.

Then again you have to look at your motives... profit/marketability or the art. Considering how so few of us stand to become filthy rich from our writing, I say f*** marketability and go with the art. If we don't love what we write it's just another day job.

Whether it's done with any talent and skill is up to the author.
