They'd better hurry up and post the results soon. I have stuff to do. And my husband wants to do something to my computer.

Like four hours after taking Viagra and with nowhere to go....

I gotta know - why would anyone take Viagra if they had nowhere to go?

rhymegirl
05-21-2005, 10:33 PM
And don't they say on that commercial that if after 4 hours the stuff is still working, you better see a doctor?

What a visual, Kate!

Cassie88

Oh, thanks, Kate. I'm working on little rhyming books about emergency vehicles...firetrucks, police cars...and your visual keeps popping up! Literally!

So sorry to see Rhush go.

You're welcome, Cassie. I didn't start that discussion. It's not such a bad visual, is it?

But back to the little rhyming books. Timmy was playing with his blocks...

Uh...I have no idea how to read this...can someone explain how this works to me?

Kappie

well, lets see if I can explain this correctly. 1-1 odds means for every 1 dollar you bet you get 1 dollar return if you win. So 3-2 is bet 3 dollars you get 2 dollars back. Reading the odds at a horserace the 1-1 odds tell you that horse is favored to win over the 3-2 horse. Does that make sense? I'm not sure I'm explaining it very well, sorry.

I'm the only one who actually is a horse ;). One might conclude that a horse stands a better chance of winning a horse race because, um, I don't think they accept howling gay predators wearing white fedoras. Not to mention, you know, like, people with real names and initials and... (trying to remember) whatever BlueTexas means. :D

Come to think of it, a coyote is faster than a horse.

(I thought 3-2 meant that if you bet $2 you get $3 back? Wouldn't the other way around indicate that the 3-2 horse is favoured over the 1-1? What do I know, though? I forgot to even watch the Kentucky Derby this year.)

maestrowork

It means Rhush, Truman and JD had slightly better odds than the others, I believe.

Kappie
05-22-2005, 07:03 AM
Yeah, Firehorse you're probably right I shouldn't have used horses as an example! Betting on horses is all I do and maybe since I can't explain the odds very well that explains my betting history at the tracks:Smack: (You are right about 3-2, you bet 2 dollars and get 3 back) And with all this betting talk I just remembered I missed the Preakness todayhttp://absolutewrite.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

Rhush

Sounds like those "odds" were off in my case!

brokenfingers
05-22-2005, 11:35 AM
Those odds as posted in Vegas are for winning the whole shebang.

Here's a generalization without going into the whole handicapping spiel etc.

1-1 = even odds (the "horse" has an excellent chance of winning so it's not really worth betting because since the bookies don't want to lose any money, you won't really make any money.)

3-2 = slightly less than even odds (again the bookies think the odds are good of the "horse" winning and so the payout is not so great)

Waiting on weather report from hell = well, my bookie said if it's cold there, then bet it....
