I think you may be missing Medi's point. If Examiner is, as most people suggest, journalism not blogging or "content"--SEO is secondary, very secondary because most readers don't come to it from random searches of the internet.

How do you figure that? Even most articles of the articles from news sites that I visit are via a search engine. If I'm getting paid per click, I am going to use every trick I have to bring traffic.

And no, I didn't miss the point. Medi is always very anti-SEO and I believe it comes from a definition of SEO that just doesn't apply anymore. It's outdated thinking. SEO is NOT about a high keyword density anymore because that isn't how the search engine spiders work anymore. For anyone who is talented at SEO/SEV, it involves great writing, linking, AND using a variety of searchable keywords.

Actually, that's incorrect. 85-90% of the PVs come from search engines.

Thank you, blue. I have no idea why this is such a hard point to get across. You stated it sweet and simple right here.

Actually, no, it comes from working at Google as a Rater, and from providing the parsing routines for natural language processing tools to weed out crap from content.

So yeah, I know exactly how it works, and how search engines rank content.

I'm done here.

That's enough.

No one has to listen to anyone else, no one has to share their experience, and no one deserves to be snarked at simply for contradicting the glad-handing, high-fiving circle-jerk. Medievalist hasn't insulted anyone regardless of the fact that she's disagreed with some of you. In turn, she doesn't deserve to be insulted because someone disagrees with her.

I'm actually closing this thread because, quite frankly, I've no interest in watching AW spread misinformation, simply because the least-informed shout down anyone who contradicts them.
