I've looked at the edit avatar option on the control pannel but I can't find where you can upload a custom one. The only options I see are preselected avatars though a custom avatar is mentioned. How can I upload a custom avatar? Thanks.

You need more than 50 posts (but not in the Office Party forum). Then you can choose your own!

Alternatively you can donate to AW via the donate link at the top of the forum.
You can immediately have a custom avatar, and you get more PM storage.

I have more than 50 posts and none of them were in the office party section. Doesn't seem to affect my inability to get a custom avatar. *shrug*. Is there something else I need to do? Other than donating.

Try logging out and then signing back in again (if you haven't already).

I log out and it immediately logs me back in. There's still no option for a custom avatar.

Just to clarify: you're selecting Log Out from the menu at the top, right-hand side, yes?
After you do this can you try closing your browser, then restarting it, and returning to AW Water Cooler.
If you're still signed in automatically -- can you Log Out again, this time clear your browser's cookies, then close and restart your browser, then try AW Water Cooler again. You should be prompted to sign in afresh (fingers crossed) and when you select User CP > Edit Avatar and scroll down past the standard avatars, you should see the extra Custom Avatar options.

Should have worked, dammit! Can't beat the system...
If you can point me to the URL of the image file you want as your avatar, or email (dpaterson57@gmail.com) this to me if it's on your PC, I can do the biz for you.

Ah, very~ interesting. I'll be seeing where I can post until I can put up my own custom avatar.
Later!

I was wondering about this as well, but didn't bother to search for the answer. Now I know. :)

It's not working for me either... do I have to wait a day or something???

Try signing out, then signing back in again.

I had to wait for a bit and eventually it appeared.
Signing back in and out didn't do anything though.

Puzzling! I'm thinking that maybe if you'd forced your browser to refresh with Ctrl-F5, the new avatar might have displayed. Just asking, did you try this?
Dare I say all's well that ends well... and this might help folks with the same question in future.

I tried everything short of re-imaging my hard drive. Even came in from another browser. Will try again tomorrow.
EDIT: I came back after a couple of hours and it worked fine.

The script that tells vBulletin that you are blessed and entitled to a custom avatar only runs at infrequent intervals.
So there's quite likely going to be a lag.
As Lisa said, once you pass the 50 post count mark, it can take a bit of time for the matrix to update itself. Just sit tight, be patient, and watch for the black cat. That's how you know something in the matrix has been changed :D

If you ABSOLUTELY CAN'T STAND WAITING
And you promise to help out other newbies, PM me, and I might help you out.
