Here's the first trailer (http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/11/new-trailer-for.html). Not as good as the show could be, I think, but then again I never think Fox gets their promotions right.

I'm just glad that Whedon is back!!

Looks like Fox is showing its usual faith in Whedon.

OMG. I hate FOX sooooo hard.

Friday again? Did they learn nothing from Firefly? Oh, right, they're FOX.

I liked the old trailer better. (I don't have a link.)

Uhm...I'm not sure we can continue with the idea of a "death slot" anymore...not with all the DVR and timeshifting technology. I've had 'Dollhouse' set to record since I first saw it on the Fox website last June or July? Something like that.

And to the original poster, thanks for posting the link. I was just wondering last night why I hadn't seen any promotion for the show.

Yeah TiVO and DVR are nice, but I don't think it counts towards Nielsen ratings. Although I could be wrong, anyone know for sure?

It doesn't count toward Nielsen's, but I read somewhere (ack! brain!) that many networks are able to track the TiVo and DVR recordings and do factor those into their equations.

Still, if the average American still uses their VCR to tape things they aren't home to watch on a FRIDAY NIGHT, that still doesn't get counted. It's one of the reasons no one programs on Saturday nights anymore--people aren't home to watch, or they're renting videos.

New tech may eventually see the end of the "friday night death slot," but I still worry for Dollhouse. Giving it such a dead-end time slot right out of the gate, instead of on a weeknight, doesn't show much faith on FOX's end.

Then again, the show could really suck eggs and Fox is being kind scheduling it all. It's possible. That trailer didn't exactly inspire me to watch.

I'm excited for this show. I started watching buffy in the beginning of the 7th and last season and for some reason missed the Angel and Firefly boat entirely. It'll be cool to see a Whedon show all the way through.

But...but...it's WHEDON!!!

How can it possibly suck eggs? :e2cry:

Actually, I don't have much faith in FOX's ability to promote complicated shows. The promos they showed for "Firefly" back in the day were just awful. Did nothing to really highlight the humor/heroics/seriousness of the series, which is one of the reasons it had trouble finding an audience.

I love Whedon. But every genius has his off day. I'm just saying that maybe this is his not-so-golden egg. I'll still watch the show. But I'm not a fan of Dushku so she's got to work hard to make me believe it.

Man. I love Whedon and Faith. *cough* I mean. Dushku. I'm pretty excited for this.

Sorry, the DVR, TiVo rationalizations are bad ones.

Either you are planning for success, or you are not.

What is the demographic for a Friday night TV audience? I would guess it would be the over 40 crowd.

What is the demographic for Dollhouse? The under 40 crowd.

Very easy math here people.

Fox screwed the pooch again.

If Dollhouse is successful it will be DESPITE FOX's programming, not because of it.

hmmm....

Just saw the trailor. I'm a Whedon fan, but if this was not Whedon, I wouldn't watch it :( .

A note about Nielsons -- they DO track DVR/Tivo viewings within the same week of broadcast for their true agragate ratings (not the next day ratings, naturally).

This has become significant with younger demographics and the shows which are aimed for/at them. Most notably Gossip Girl, which has fairly low real-time viewing numbers but significant next day/next week numbers (which resulted in its renewal, and its rapidly-approaching-phenomenon nature).
