I read an article recently where a writer mentioned she uses LinkedIn to get sources for articles, i.e. she'll look for a certain specialist, and then approach them for an interview. Do other writers do this, with that one or similar forums? It seems like a good way to open up avenues to sources, but for some reason I'm not sure...any experiences/opinions?

You can go to the story/research board for the answer to your question. Many writers post questions for people to respond to for quotes from the everyday joe. Haro.com - Help a reporter out is also another site for sources as well as profnet.com. Haro and profnet are for getting professionals sources. it is a good way to get info when you need it. hope this helps.
