Bush says it's temporary and limited.

Didn't they say the same thing about the enactment of the federal income tax??

..and Barney Frank applauded it?

..with a Democrat super majority/president?

You think the stock market has lost in the past month? You haven't seen anything yet. An Obama win alone would kill growth immediately.

Saul Alinsky is turning one way in his grave; Ayn Rand the other.

Good bye ol' US of A as we knew it. Hello 13% unemployment.

Seems to me that at least 250 billion of the deal will be safe. The govt gets a 5% dividend for the first five years then bump up to 9% in order to encourage banks to buy back their shares. With my Walmart degree in Economics, I'd say that makes the most sense of anything I heard.

Oh, so the US Government just gave banks an ARM-type loan? What if the going interest rate in five years is 12 percent? What then? Will the banks be in a hurry to pay back that 250 billion dollars at 9 percent then?

Ben, professional cynic.

I'm sure there won't be any unintended consequences.
"Aw, don't worry about that ARM none, Mr. BankerGuy. As long as you make enough loans to borrowers with bad credit histories, give my favorite corporations favorable rates, and make plenty of loans in my district, you've got nothing to worry about.

"Of course, we'll change the regulations to chase those bad banks that compete with you out of business, what are friends for?

"Oh, and Mr. AirlineGuy, Mr. AutoGuy, Mr. ComputerGuy, hold on a minute. I'll be right with you."

Later... "Why would we sell that stock back to you, Mr. BankerAirlineAutoComputerGuy? We're making all kinds of money now, and who knows when you'll need us again in the future? We should just stay partners. It's for the children, you know."

Good points. I think I'll try to get a refund on that Walmart degree.
