literary magazines

Have many of you published your humor in literary magazines? - I know they don't pay a lot but as a writer of short humor some of my stuff is somewhat weird or is in an offbeat category and for some reason it would make me feel good to find a home for it. Surely there are some good reasons to be published in Literary mags. What say?

Which particular lit mags were you looking at? Also, what kind of humour pieces are you talking about? Are they humorous articles? Satire? Funny short stories?

I have had articles that had a funny/sarcastic bend published by mags.

I guess it all depends.

Rod: Good question about literary mags. I have not been published in a literary mag, but I don't see any reason why they wouldn't publish humor pieces. I guess you could start canvassing the news stands and see which mags speak to your muse. Your writing sounds interesting - love to hear more about it!

Determined-

Neither of the pieces could be considered satire...more like a sarcastic editorial, one on language being torn apart and the other about people looking for romantic difficulties. One was published in Verbatim Magazine and the other in Open Wide Magazine.

My humor, what extremely, very little I've had published, has only been published in commercial magazines.

I've sent some humor short stories to lit mags, but no luck so far. However, I do have a group of haiku's, half on the light side, being published in Rosebud this August.

Lits do take humor, but not enough of it. Some of the smaller ones, though, are run by folks barely out of adolecence and tend to think good writing shouldn't be funny.
