Harry Fiennes looks great as young Voldemart.

Sigh. Let the temptation begin. I have never watched a Harry Potter trailer, and I am not going to start now. It is so painful for me, but I just don't want to know any of the visuals before I see them in the movie. It's my own personal game, causes me no end of grief. I have issues.

It's the teaser trailer, meant to let people know it's coming and give a glimpse of what it's about, so I wasn't expecting anything huge. I've seen better and worse teasers, but I think this one does its job.
Mind you, the missus and I are already psyched for HBP, we're currently rewatching all the previous movies and may watch them again in the run up to the release. :)

Oh I'll definitely see it, but I thought the last one missed some of the best elements of the book. So I am not getting my hopes too high.
Is it wrong of me to think the young men are growing up nicely? I feel so- old.

I thought the quick image of "dead" Ron was the best shot of the trailer. Dumbledore's bit of fire magic is neat, too. I'm still skeptic on seeing it, though. The movies aren't really my cup of tea, but somehow the scenes in them still seem to come to mind when I read the books.
I do love movie trailers, though. Here's hoping the full trailer shows more of the whole story.

This movie releases the WEEKEND of PHILCON.
Oh, the irony, a huge sci-fi/fantasy con on the weekend of the HBP release. I'm sure many of the faithful will be torn...or just all go to midnight showings Thursday.
I can see many "let's see HBP while we're dressed up!" parties. Groups invading the movie theater near the hotel. Poor movie theater.
LOL. I can't wait. I'll be at the con all weekend, I'm sure. I don't usually do opening weekends. I like watching movies in an uncrowded theater, weeks after the release hubbub is over.

It looks awesome! As much as I liked book 6 I consider it the weakest novel out of the bunch. The movie looks great. The little boy who plays young Voldermort is a good actor. I loved the bit at the end when it flashed between adult Voldermort and his younger self. I heard that the last movie is going to be split in two so there are actually 3 more movies left.

I think this is a GREAT trailer. It's ominous in a very quiet way, and it was a gutsy move to make the trailer about Dumbledore and Voldemort, with Harry as only a very minor figure. Of course, with something as culturally ubiquitous as HP, maybe you can get away with this. But still, it's intelligent in a way most movie trailers aren't -- it gives the viewer some credit -- and that alone amps me up to see the film.

I've never liked the HP films, especially since I know the story...I'm sure it would be different if I didn't know the story, I'd be all like "Suspense! So awesome!" but now I see them as simply boring...some eye candy to watch. I haven't even seen the 5th one yet. So I can't say I'm excited about this one...meh, I already know what's gonna happen...

Okay, all kidding aside from my previous post, I also like the way this trailer's set up. You have the story between Voldemort and Dumbledore, and it's Not Nice. You can feel the tension between them, and they do the quick-cut between Voldemort the Younger and Voldemore the Adult.
And then they start Hedwig's Theme, which is sweet and music box-y, and it just creeped the hell out of me. Rockin'.

:( Still haven't seen the trailor. but the descriptions here sound good.
To the person who said he knows whats going to happen so whats the point? Well, forme, I just love the whole world in the books and I see the movies as an extension of that. WHen I read them I don't want to put them down. For me it isn't about suspense and isn't ruined by knowing what is going to happen. I've been listening to the audio books lately and I pick up details I missed before - I figure I must skim some when I read or something. What I think would be cool though, since the movies are condensed, especially the later ones, is a Mini-Series(More like a maxi-series ;)), which would beable to have the time to give the books the proper scope since they'd have all the time they'd need to play with. Maybe in the future someone will tackle that, it would be quite the undertaking. DOn't get me wrong, I enjoy the movies, but the 5th one didn't include some of the best parts of the book and Ron and Hermione were almost background characters instead of major players.

Yeah I get what you're saying, it's a whole different experience but the movies don't click with me for some reason...I'll watch it and it is neat to see the characters alive on screen, but it doesn't resonate with me as much. I know what you mean. I think the movies have had a handful of scenes done very well (especially once Chris Columbus was out) but something about them overall, as you say, doesn't click with me. I love the books (sass can vouch for that) but the movies feel very stiff to me.

Sometimes, when the movie is produced first, and THEN the book comes out, the movie is better than the book. But even then, it's not all that often.

True. Then there's the one time (thankfully) they put something in that wasn't in the book: that stupid shrunken head on the night bus in The Prisoner of Azkaban. With the wealth of material they had to cut, why add stuff? It took me out of the story because it seemed so out of place and from the moment it opened its mouth, I wanted the idiotic thing to just shut the hell up.

Oh I know. They made up a character for Order of the Pheonix, Nigel, who acts a lot like Colin Creevy and/or his brother. why not just have Colin? Or his little brother? I totally didn't get that.

Maybe the actor who plays Colin wasn't available.

Um, no, Nigel Creevey WAS in the books. He didn't have much to say, but he was there. I distinctly remember a conversation Harry had with Colin Creevey's little brother. He talked a blue streak, just like Colin, and I think the conversation had something to do with his being sorted.
They didn't make him up. Which book I can't remember but it must have been Goblet of Fire? I'll have to research it.
ETA: Whoops, sorry. Colin DOES have a brother, I knew I didn't imagine it, but his name is Dennis. So they kept the character and changed the name.
On topic, having now written a short screenplay for a writing course, and using the short story I wrote for said course as the basis, I can completely understand how things get cut. One page=one minute of screentime. It's SO hard to cram everything that you had in the story into the screenplay, especially when you're limited by time. I wish they'd added a few tidbits to the movies - like mentioning the "Maruaders" and at least telling the story of how James turned into a stag. Unless you'd read the books, Harry's Patronus makes little sense. Or at least it's more meaningful with the story behind it.

So recast him. (i'm not being snarky at you. I just think it is stupid to create a new character for the movie when there are so many to choose from in the book.)
To Christine:
I read in magzine interview that Nigel was made up for the movie,a nd I don't think he was a Creevy, he just made me think of the Creevy brothers which makes me wonder why they just didn't use them. THat's all.
And I completely understand about movies having the be quicker paced and shorter, I do. Especially for a theatrical release. That's why I like my mini-series idea, you could have more scope for all the wonders of the wizarding world. Ok, I'm going in circles now so I'll shut up.

Where Harry is running through the grass...is that when he's chasing after HBP at the end?
The body that Harry is leaning over? Is that Bill?

From the opening chapters of the first book, Harry has been shown to be able to communicate with snakes, and it is a HUGE DEAL that comes full circle in the final book. There's so much stuff like that that makes me really happy they're doing The Deathly Hallows as two films so they can put as much of it in as possible.
I am so chuffed for the remaining films.

I can't wait. I saw the trailer, it is indeed a teaser. I want MORE. Of course, the books are better, but the movies are enjoyable too. I started reading Harry Potter when the first movie came out. Decided I should read the book before seeing the movie. By the time I saw the movie, I had read all three books and was dying for Goblet of Fire to be released!
And yes--young Tom is quite creepy. Scary creepy. "I can talk to snakes, too" will be this year's "I see dead people."

Everything I've read about it so far, which isn't much, has focused on teen angles too. Apparently this is the "funniest film" of all of them, which kind of threw me for a loop, considering this is the darkest book of them all.
But if it's on par with the humor they enhanced in Goblet, then it could work really well. I know they've added some darker action scenes not in the book, which I think we got a glimpse of in the trailer.
Quite frankly, I'm very surprised they haven't pulled out the "someone really important dies" angle yet. Maybe in the next trailer! This is the UK version, so we still have an US one coming.
ETA: I like that they included one of my favorite lines in the trailer--the entire "fight back, you coward" scene is one of my favorites in the series.

Yet another trailer, which I'm actually pretty impressed with. A little funny, with some slick special effects. Even though it happens "off screen" in the book, I think it was a good idea to film the bridge collapse mentioned in the first chapter.

I'm usually not surprised when Hollywood does something like that, but there's really no way around this death. It affects everything about the plot, so if they don't do it there's no last two movies. Fans would be enraged, anyway. They're smart enough over at WB to know that would be the end of their franchise.

The movie holds true to the books. If JK Rowling kills a beloved character, you can be damn sure that the film will. *shrug* After all, those deaths are what drive Harry's motivation and the overall plot. They have to die. It's just the way things are.
