JULY 2--A Kentucky woman is facing prostitution charges for allegedly trading sex for gasoline. Angela Eversole, 34, was nabbed last weekend during a police stakeout at a Days Inn, where she allegedly trysted with customer Kenneth Nowak. According to court records, Nowak admitted paying for Eversole's services, in part, with a $100 Speedway gas card.

OH, Robert!

What a ridiculous story. And NO, I wasn't in Kentucky anytime recently. ;)

It's not just in Kentucky.

In NV, the brothels are offering gas cards to customers:

That a good way to get customers to come visit your establishment.

I believe they collaborate with the casinos on ideas. That's exactly what one in this state has tried...

Maybe soon they'll have weekly tournaments (the brothels)...

Women (and men) have always traded sex for commodities that are treated as fungible by certain sectors of society. Sex for drugs is common. So are sex for phone cards, sex for cigarettes, sex for motel rooms (use for the night), basically anything that can be traded or consumed.

And let's not forget that old WWII standby, silk stockings. :D

Unfortunately, we have some in the current generation that have passed up on stocking, and underwear!

Some of us live in a hot climate.

An' that's all I'm saying on the subject.

Be careful ladies! Just because he hands you a gas card doesn't mean he hasn't already used up every last penny on that card himself!

Imagine your embarassment when you go to the local Chevron station and find out your gas card is utterly empty.

Imagine your FURTHER embarassment when the store clerk hands the useless card back to you as he snortles: "Hmph, another red-light special."

And the other WWII standby... by the end of the war, in England, a night of... um... "fun" could be had for a pack of Lucky Strikes.

Get lucky!

Bad habit, but DW and I both smoke. For the next two months we're in a state with very high cig taxes. We came through states with very low cig taxes. I could buy out a good-sized brothel for a week at that rate. :D

I always think these things are just a waste of taxpayer money.

Have sex for a gas card, go to jail.

Have sex for a diamond pendant and a lobster/steak dinner. And society says "You go girl".

Double standards. *sigh*.

One of my friends moved in with an older guy that wanted to marry her (which of course she used). He paid for her college, her car, everything, and a month after she graduated she says, "Sorry, this just isn't working out."

How many women use men to pay the rent, to get presents, etc. etc. One form of hustling is legit, the other illegal.

Funny world.

The most interesting aspect is that the non-fraudulent transaction is illegal, while the fraudulent transaction is legal. Imagine a society where victimless 'crimes' are no longer crimes, but golddigging is seen as the fraud that it is.

Don, I quit 11 weeks ago this coming Monday. But that's neither here nor there. I refuse to turn into one of those *turning on whiney, irritating voice* "You shouldn't smoke, it's bad for you!" *turning off voice*

I just refuse to do it.

Your restraint would be admirable, but for this post. :D

Prostitution is far from a "victimless 'crime".

• 78 percent of 55 women who sought help from the Council for Prostitution Alternatives in 1991 reported being raped an average of 16 times a year by pimps, and were raped 33 times a year by johns.
• 62 percent reported having been raped in prostitution.
• 73 percent reported having experienced physical assault in prostitution.
• 72 percent were currently or formerly homeless.
• 92 percent stated that they wanted to escape prostitution immediately.
• 83 percent of prostitutes are victims of assault with a weapon.
• 75 percent of women in escort prostitution had attempted suicide.
• 67 percent meet diagnostic criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

In short, the victims of prostitution are mostly the prostitutes themselves. It just may be that they no longer have the ability left to "consent" to be a willing participant in their so-called victimless crime.
