Is anyone else getting an awful lot of spam private msgs lately?
Most (if not all) of them seem to be from people who signed up and didn't make any posts.

Please forward those to one of the supermods when you get them! I there's a problem, we can ban the sender and look to see if there are other actions we can take.

Feel free to forward to me what you have now.

Thanks! I sent you the ones I saved, before I realized I was starting to get them weekly. If I get any more I will continue to pass them along.

I got one today, but the spamming "member" was already banned, so it was too late to report it.

I guess that's what comes from having a name that starts with the letter A. For once, why can spammers start from the end of the alphabet?
:e2tongue:

If spammers weren't lazy and stupid, they'd probably think about that, Anne. No, wait, if they weren't lazy and stupid they'd be doing something worthwhile instead of spamming. :D

But the members list isn't there anymore right? So, I wonder how they would manage that?

Yes, I wish people had better things to do with their time. I just can't imagine wasting my time in such a fashion.

Here's a strategically cut-off version of the currently-available members currently online at the moment (I forget exactly what page it's on, but it's not TOO diffucult to access...):

Currently Active Users (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/online.php): 340 (136 members and 204 guests) http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/misc/whos_online.gif (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/online.php) Most users ever online was 2,207, 05-18-2006 at 01:40 PM.

Without elaborating on it too much (there may be some really stupid "script kiddies" out there who can't figure out what I'm implying), I can see where spammers could get a list of many active members from here.

Yeah, I kind of figured they knew something more than I do (which really isn't hard when it comes to computers and such). I guess they have their ways.

I always wonder about the non-member lurkers; at any given moment there are hundreds of them. I feel like I'm an animal in a zoo and the lurkers are watching from outside the bars...

Just as long as they're not selling your car ;)

AW does have a cheap admission fee, after all...

LOL - that was an awesome story. Even though I could see the ending coming, the wording of the delivery was a surprise.

And here I was wondering why other people got this spam and I didn't...

:D
