[sarcasm]Wha-what? What's wrong with vampires? Just because they need to drink blood to survive and (usually) must avoid sunlight at all costs, it doesn't mean they're not like everyone else. They're just poor, misunderstood souls who everyone mistreats unfairly. [/end sarcasm]

Yes, I continue to see the overabundance of new vampire books, and just the sheer numbers of books on that one subgenre is getting ridiculous. Mind you, there are some very fresh takes I've heard about from people on AW and other sites, but now anything that is mainly about vampires makes me cringe.

My intention isn't to imply that there is anything inherently wrong with vampire fiction, just that it seems to be overdone as a whole. I know there is a huge market for vampire novels right now, but personally I'd rather not try to write one of them. This is all my opinion, of course, so if you want to write a "vampire-stripper-pretending-to-be-a-vampire-hunter-pretending-to-be-a-stripper-pretending-to-be-a-vampire" novel, I have absolutely no problems with that. :)

And I'm with Shweta: that would look great on a T-shirt. :D

And nestled among those acquired vampire books were a dozen other books about witches, magical detectives, and other non-vampire critters.

Descriptions of books specifically mentioning vampires: 6
Descriptions of books specifically mentioning other genre fantasy creatures: 7

The vampires have a generous plurality.

Vampire Jane Austen sounds awesome.

Me and my just completed vampire novel will ignore the anti-vamp sentiment in this thread and go pick daises. :gone:

Hmmm, I should write "Vampire Virgin Massacre"!

But should it be vampire virgins massacring innocent people, or vampires massacring virgins at steamy slumber parties?
