View Full Version : Now I really do need moderators

Okay, now I'm ready.
Take a look at the forum list. Look all the way to the right and you'll see the moderators column. Any board that doesn't have a moderator listed really doesn't have a moderator at this point.
(The super-mods have been watching them. The super-mods are: aka eraser, Birol, ChunkyC, MacAllister, rtilryarms, Betty W01, and me.)
So! If you're interested in moderating one of the open boards, please respond here and tell me which one/s interest you.
I'm looking for people whose judgment I can trust, who will be diplomatic and kind, and who won't go disappearin' on me. ;) Must be willing to check in at least 3 times a week.
Responsibilities: Deleting abusive/spammy posts, helping people who have questions, getting discussions going if things get quiet, moving posts that belong in other areas of the forum, letting a supermod know if someone needs banning. Honestly, most of the boards get very little spam/nastiness, but it happens from time to time.
Thanks!

Jenna,
I volunteered before for a thread that was already taken. If you have trust and confidence in me to do those things you need, I'll be happy to help with the Freelance thread. It's not quite as busy as other threads.
My mind may fog now and then, but I'm normally always here in body. :)
I'll understand if you don't take the offer.

I'd be happy to take another if you need the help. Maybe Office Party or TIO? Whatever you think. Goals and Accomplishments is generally pretty tame, though we're getting a lot more business lately, so I don't think it'd be too much for me to handle.

I suppose I would be an appropriate person to moderate the "Announcements, Events, and Self-Promotion" board since I edit the "WRITERS' WEBSITES Thread" pinned at the top. Plus, the board's not all that busy.

I'm at home all day and live online, so anything you toss my way I'd be willing and able to take on.

Jenna, I'd be happy to take the writing about animals board, if Carol wouldn't mind. Have you heard from her?

I'd be happy to take Writing Non-Fiction. I edit non-fiction (mostly educational publishing, but some other non-fiction) and I'm at my computer pretty much all day long.

Jenna,
I'll take playwriting, since it is close to screenwriting, which I already mod.

I'll take Story Research if you like. (Since I bugged you so much about it!)

Hi Jenna!
I'm available to moderate any board(s) as well. I'm home all day, and can check in quite often.
I have previous moderating experience with an IRC chatroom, as well as a beauty board (set up much like AW is, so I know how it works), and several Yahoo groups. Currently I moderate the Yahoo groups. I can also provide references, if need be. ;)
I'd be happy moderating any of the boards, but especially have interest and experience in any of these (bolded those I'm especially interested in):
Freelance writing
Writers Wanted: Paying Markets
Writers Wanted: Nonpaying Markets
Story Research
Office Party
Religious & Spiritual Writing (If Betty ever needs help)
Announcements, Events, Self-Promotion
Water Cooler Changes and Announcements
Life Story Writing
But hey, I'd happily do any of them, including others I did not mention!

If you haven't found someone to moderate this one yet, Im available to moderate the mainstream/contemporary forum. It's the genre I write anyways. Plus I'm home all day and normally online alot. If someone else has asked for that one, I don't mind volunteering my time for any of the other ones that haven't been snatched up yet.

LOL - I thought the same thing. I'd probably prefer the freelance writing or paying/non-paying markets, anyway. I love the TIO, but boy, not sure about moderating. LOL! ;)

Thankfully, TIO has been traditionally moderator-free...being the place where actual flame-wars get sent to burn themselves out. Jenna or the supermods do the general house-cleaning there.
That seems to work, to tell ya the truth. So some lucky soul is off the hook, and gets a REAL room instead. *whew*!

Jenna,
Before we all moved from ezBoard, I'd mentioned I'd be interested in helping out. A couple I'm interested in are Religious/Spiritual - Other and the new Mainstream/Contemporary. I've moderated & hosted forums on Delphi Forums in the past (and currently), but as far as relevant experience, that's all I can really think of.
On second thought, I should probably either e-mail this to you or send you a PM.

I'd be happy to take either Writer's Market, Writing Partners, the Romance forum, or even Mentoring.

Pepperland, I do want you as a mod, but realized I can't right now because of your standing in the Idol contest (we've been discussing some Idol-related stuff in the Mod Squad room). In case I forget, please remind me, and as soon as the Idol contest is over, I'll "promote" you to moderator status.

I was once the moderator for a forum designed only for people to b1tch about the moderators.

Freelance Writing
Songwriting

Jenna if you still need someone for spiritual and religious writing, or any other for that matter, and think I'm able, I'd be happy to do so. I have run my own Delphi Forums and Yahoo boards in the past, including one on writing, and am interested and experienced in those topics generally. Or anything else you may need someone for.
I'm hope most of the time with my broadband connection always on.

This is an old thread!
I’m too old and cranky for moderating any more. I moderated a forum much larger than this one, some years ago, and it’s not all that fun.
Are the rules for moderator the same as they are for the U.S. Marine Corps rules? Some times they should be the same.
U.S. MARINE CORPS RULES:
1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
2. Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough.
3. Have a plan.
4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work.
5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a "4."
7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.
8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend.
9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
11. Always cheat; always win. The only fair fight is the one you lose.
12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
I believe I see the romance board open. I'm an aspiring romance author. I keep abreast of the happenings in the romance genre so starting up discussions shouldn't be a problem. I pretty much live online, so checking in shouldn't be a problem either. I'm a bit of a lurker, but I have been watching the boards here awhile, trying to get my feet wet. I'm finally coming out of my shell, and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.
If anything comes up, I am pretty good at letting people know. The only time I've been offline in the last couple of years was when my computer's motherboard died and it took a week to get repaired. I help moderate a couple of the forum topics at a popular romance writing forum as well, so I have some experience.
Haven't had to move posts from one forum to another because I haven't been given that type access. I'm fairly technical, so I should be able to figure that out if explained to me as well. I'm fairly level headed and stay calm in most situations. If I can't, I know how to bake away and take a breather. If you would like someone to run that board, I'd like to be given the opportunity.

I think I'm going to adopt this as my new work ethic.
:)
Don’t forget to use the Holy hand Grenade of Antioch, even for harmless little snapping turtles and...and... turtledoves...and...and rabbits and...and...the little people.
A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:
Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, “Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.”
And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, “First thou pullest the Holy Pin.
Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out.
Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.”

Hi Jenna.
I know I said in the past that I would not make a good mod, but I've been hanging around these forums so much that I feel I should contribute more to AW.
I've noticed a forum about research and interviewees needed, where there does not seem to be a mod. If you would have me, I would be willing to help with that forum.
I have been a mod on another forum site, so I do know a little bit about the job. I also admittedly have my issues. But I love this forum very much and find it an excellent resource for writers. I would be more than happy to help out where I can.
Of course, you've seen how I can get sometimes, so I will understand if you refuse my offer. But I do wish I could be of more service to the AbsoluteWrite community, and I am willing to help out where I can.
Thanks.

Sorry for the double post, but the board seems to be running very slowly.
I just thought of a second forum I would be interested in, because of my experience with a POD publisher. I think the POD self-publishing forum would be another one I might be able to help out at.
