Different parts of this poem have been meaningful to me during different phases of my life.

After college, I spent months researching T.S. (Terribly Sexy) Eliot just because if affected me so profoundly and I wanted to understand what he was going through when he wrote it.

I was lucky. I had a college professor who just decided to read the poem to us in its entirety. It was a wonderful gift.

It is such an important piece in the history of the art. I hope that those who have feelings and thoughts about the poem will share it here.

"Looking into the heart of light, the silence."

Hopefully, our benign Mod will fix my silly typo. I meant to type "The Waste Land" for the thread title. I need to look at the screen more often when I type!

Thank you Mr. In A Hat!

I hope there are other nerds who will join me here soon.

As a teenager, one of the first poems that made realize the breadth poetry could encompass. The opening is as haunting and evocative as anything in literature.
