On June 3rd, my mother is going to have knee replacement surgery and on June 4th, my mother-in-law is going to have surgery due to diverticulitis. My mother-in-law lives out of state and my mother is going to another state to have her surgery.

The timing for all of this is both a good thing and a bummer because it is the very week my husband and I planned to take a vacation with our children. It is a good thing because we will both be off from work and available. It is a bad thing because we have not been able to take a vacation in a very long time.

With the prevalence of MRSA and many other opportunistic organisms, I worry about the risk of nosocomial infection. This worry is in addition to all of the other concerns associated with a loved one who is ill, having surgery and hospitalized.

Despite my worries, I will be fine. I do wish to request prayer for my mother and my mother-in-law. I love them both very much.

Sincerely,
Gehanna

We're on it. Get as much rest yourselves, though, as possible--sometimes those who care end up in worse shape due to sleep-deprivation than the patient.

Gehanna:
I did! Now, make sure your mom does the in-house rehab, for at least 5 days. She will probably resist but it is for you to insist.
God Bless,
Jim

On June 3rd, my mother is going to have knee replacement surgery

Prayed. Will remember your mother-in-law tomorrow as well. Gehanna, 365 different times in God's word He says, "Fear not." Now, you know if He says it that many times, He's serious about it. :Hug2: Do what you know to do and trust Him with the results. Then, regardless of the outcome, praise Him and give Him glory because He's still on the Throne and is Worthy!

Just following up.
Hope the surgery went well and prognosis is good. I second Come Back, don't let Mom slack off on the rehab. Gotta keep that new joint workin'...especially when it's new.

Praying Gehanna. May it all go well and smoothly.

I'm sorry about your vacation. I know it's not uppermost in your mind, but it sure is a bummer. :(

Update on my mother and mother-in-law. Both are now in the painful, post surgical recovery stages. Despite the pain, they are doing well physically.

Thanks again for all the prayers.

Sincerely,
Gehanna

Gehanna, I'm so glad to hear the surgeries went well. As one who has recovered from knee surgery once (though mine was only laparoscopic), I empathize with the challenges ahead for them. Hope they stay infection-free, and that they make good progress in their recovery!
