McCain, under pressure from all kinds of people, has now rejected Pastor Hagee's endorsement. I don't see that he had a choice, politically.
Next up, Rev. Rod Parsely?

I'm excited about the prospect of people finally starting to learn about Parsley, whom we all know as McCain's spiritual guide.
But that's not what this thread is about. No, it's about Hagee, and not only did McCain do the right thing, it was also the only thing he could do. Anything else would've been political suicide. Good riddance, Hagee.

McCain only "did the right thing" because it was political suicide to keep him on, especially after Hagee's remarks on the Holocaust.
But did he "do the right thing" in the first place by inviting him on board, despite his comments on Catholics, gays, and anyone else that Hagee has a hate-fest with? No. He said he "disagreed" with Hagee's remarks on Catholics, but that didn't stop him from approaching him and accepting his endorsement. But find out that Hagee is anti-Semitic with grand delusions of why Israel was created so that his End-Times scenario could happen? Out, though not right away until the comments on Hitler comes up. And of course, nothing mentioned about his hate for gays and Muslims. Go figure.
All-in-all, it was a hollow gesture imo, when he ditched both Hagee and Parsley soon after it came out that their anti-religious bigotry could be a problem.

I don't think anyone sane would argue that McCain is any better off than Obama as far as lunatic religious supporters/influences go.
I only hope that Hagee/Parsley being white doesn't give them a "free pass" with modern American society. What they said was equally as inflammatory as the worst of Wright's remarks, if not more so.

I had never really looked into Hagee all that much before this campaign. I just dismissed him as yet another slimeball "pastor" at one of those mega churches where they're more interested in their TV ratings and influx of money than they are about preaching the Gospel.
But after reading up on this guy, I can safely say he's probably one of the most twisted people I've ever heard of. I think it's a safe bet that this guy is a white Rev. Wright, he might well be even more fanatical than Wright is (though I'm not ready to make that assessment just yet.)
But I have a bias here. I personally believe these "mega churches" are all bad. The point of church is to worship, not to rake in money. I'll admit, I don't go to church but maybe three times a year and that's when my wife makes me, so I'm no saint. But I'd rather stay home than attend some arena-style fund raiser disguised as a church.

Better late than never to cut the ties but McCain should have done it much sooner. Hagee's anti-Catholic, anti-gay, anti-anything he doesn't believe in stances should have dictacted such a move sooner. In March McCain was courting Hagee's endorsement; now he's rejecting it.
Oh, dear - wouldn't that be a flip flop?

LOL! Wheeeeeee!
I still love that you can 'reject an endorsement' and that actually means anything.

Rod Parsley's World Harvest Baptist Church is right around the corner from me. My daughter's high school has their annual graduation ceremonies there, because it's the only place in the community big enough to hold everyone.
On or about June 1, 2010, I'll have to walk through WHBC's doors.
Prepare for the apocalypse.

Hey and he did it without first chucking his granny under a bus!
As for Parsley, I've seen some of what he's had to say this morning on the news and you know... I think a lot of people are going to sympathize with his assessments of Islam. Warped as that might seem to reasonable folks, we're talking about passions here and after 9/11 and Ahmadinejad a lot of folks look on Islam as the enemy.

Prepare for the apocalypse.Well, thank you. It's useful to have an actual date for the end of the world.
