View Full Version : Stew21 & KTC Collaborate on a Novel! Read their Blog
No. It's not paper. Paper came WAY before the Bic Pen.
Trishka (Stew) and KTC will be collaborating on a NOVEL!
Yes. It's true.
Not only will we be collaborating on said novel, but we will be doing so in the public eye. Trish and I have created a blog where we will be sharing our novel in progress with the world (or at least those of you interested in checking in and giving it a read).
The blog is called YOURS, MINE... OURS (http://trishkevin.wordpress.com/) A Collaborative Novel of Literary Merit
If you visit today, you will see that the novel itself has not yet begun. Please visit frequently to check on its progress.
If you like what you read, Trish and I ask that you add our blog to your blogroll.
We hope that you enjoy reading our AS YET UNTITLED NOVEL as much as we are going to love writing it.

Kevin will be writing Chapter 2. He will post it when he's done.
lol. I just stepped in to do this very same thing.
It's exciting, thrilling and totally terrifying... all at the same time, eh Trishka!
Stew21
05-21-2008, 10:32 PM
It is sort of terrifying. Most times, people don't see what I've written until I've gotten through a complete first novel draft (and more often, a second complete draft). Not just a first chapter.
And I have to take its hand and walk it into the next chapter! Oy vey! Scary but so much fun...

Just read it. All I gotta say is, are you SURE this is just a first draft? I think maybe you guys already have this written and edited and now you're putting up the chapters. ;)
Okay, seriously... frickin' awesome for a first draft.
That is ALL Trish so far. Her chapter. Just an inch above first draft. A mere inch... isn't she fabulous!

So, Kevin, I'm blog-ignorant. Did you tell Anthony comments are turned on now?
Were they turned off? :shrugs:
To anyone who reads, please feel free to comment.
lol. They were turned to where you had to enter information and then the moderators (you and I) had to okay them.
I should give you a rundown of the dashboard. It's very cool. Did you click on Blog Stats yet? It shows a graph of hits as well as where the hits are coming from and what links are being clicked, etc.

Damn - I could have had a rabid albino chipmunk pop out of the tree at Duncan! Why didn't I think of that.
He could scurry off reciting MacBeth or Hamlet or something.

I'm back, Trishka.
Okay, all... Chapter 2 is now up on the blog. I eagerly await Trish's chapter 3!
it may have been asked or answered somewhere but i'm too lazy right now to look around so here is a question for you all,...
how much has this been discussed?
like, did you outline it, etc. etc.
Stew21
05-23-2008, 12:40 AM
No outline. Kevin told me to start, so I wrote a first chapter. I sent it to him for approval and he sent me the second chapter in return.
We have checked in a couple of times just to see if we are on the same page as for where the story could go. But there isn't an outline and we don't know what's going to happen until one of us writes it.
It's a bit intense - but ridiculously fun.
no pressure but this may well settle the great debate on whether or not to outline :D
JOKE. THAT IS A JOKE!
very nice -- i'm looking forward to this!
Stew21
05-23-2008, 12:44 AM
I panicked as soon as he told me he finished his chapter.
"Shit. My turn again! What am I going to write? GAH!"
After this, I might change my ways and endorse outlines. ;)

Trish... that was/is seriously good. Talk about starting 'in the action'. And I love the POV... but I'm perverse like that. :)

I know!!!! Good God, it's like hot potato!
After this, I might change my ways and endorse outlines. ;)
Never. I will never outline. I love the surprise of finding out what my next word, sentence, paragraph, chapter is! It's really fun when the next chapter comes from the brain of another. What a blast!
Stew21
05-23-2008, 01:06 AM
I'm truly not capable of outlines. This is the only way I can write. It's just never been quite so intense before.
wait'll ya see what happens next!
(hell, wait'll I see what happens next! I'll find out just a bit before you do.)

I'm guessing there will be no vampires, zombies, ferrets, chipmunks, et al. (-;

Where's Chapter 3? :D
Stew21
05-23-2008, 01:26 AM
Right now chapter 3 is an idea I scribbled on a sticky post-it note - which may, or may not, expand into a workable chapter.

And...
And...
Where's Chapter 3????
Just found this thread. How exciting! Two of my favorite folks. I gotta run but I'm looking forward to reading tomorrow.

YAY! Jay's gonna read us!
Kevin, regretting the contract stipulation that banned the use of battery worshipers in the novel.
I hope you like it, III. Thanks for the kind words, MoMMY.
And yes, bad thread title. I was just so excited to be working with Trish that I was a little rash with the thread title. It is the most exciting thing for me... the Bic pen has nothing on this.
BUT
If there happens to be a title changing mod in the mix, would you pretty please change the title to:

Pretty please... with batteries on top?

Thanks much, Meekkat! Glad you liked it.
Stew21
05-30-2008, 08:20 PM
You didn't screw anything up. It was easier for me to change the one mention of his name in Chapter 3 to Tate than it was for you to change the multiple mentions of your good character to my far less defined character.

I'm just as anxious to read it as you are, Meerkitty.

For those following along our little experimental blog-novel, Chapter 7 is nearly done. I just have a few tweaks, need KTC to read through it and it will be posted soon.
Don't lose faith, I know this one took a long time. It'll be done soon. I hope we haven't lost your interest with the delay.
Also, I was curious, if you guys would be interested in us doing some blog entries about the process of the writing, and more plot chatting and speculation in the feedback section we set up? Does the behind the scenes stuff seem interesting or do you just want to read the story?
Let me know!
Thanks (and thanks to everyone who read and comment.)

I think it did too and I don't know how two people could collaborate on a novel without being able to stand each other. From the no-outline perspective, you have to really like the other's writing and trust them a lot. It's a huge compliment to me that Kevin wants to write with me.

LOL...yeah I can see why you'd say honest cos you know I would lie otherwise. LOL.
:tongue
seriously, do you want to know if something takes me out of the story? KTC and I have swapped writing and critique. But that isn't what you are looking for here, right? Just if I like it or not?

I don't know about Trish...but for me this is just something we are doing because we feel like our writing meshes. I for one am not looking for a critique. We are just doing this to see if we can and to see what the outcome is. We are basically freefalling this entire novel. Trish writes a chapter, I write a chapter. It's first draft. Not something I am looking for a critique on. Trish? You can weigh in here too. For me, it's a learning process in and of itself. I'm loving it...just to see it grow...just to do it.

You can tell us whatever you want to tell us. :) Kevin and I are both open to crit.
Ha...cross posted with kevin. He's right about the process and what we are doing with it. It really is about meshing the writing to tell one story from one point of view from two writers. (TOTAL BLAST!) But I wouldn't discourage crit of any kind.
It might not change the first draft (what's posted), but it might make a difference when we edit it. :)

lol. we cross posted. i am always open to critique. i don't want my previous post to suggest that i am not. but as this is first draft, i think it's too seat-of-our-pants to look at critique as we write it. i feel as though the train is currently going only in one direction. (-; Certainly crits would be something, if offered along the way, we could look into once we reach the finish line. (-;

Well, I'll post there too but I'm starting on chapter 3 now, see, Kev...I'm still awake. ;)
Your writing styles are quite similar so it meshes very well.
Btw...what do you mean by freefall, Kevin?
The only thing that's hung me up is a artist reference because I'm so freakishly into the story I think, hang on wait a minute, who is that artist?

now you have to go back and read my edited post, Kevin. :)
I added to it based on your answer. :)

You're doing extremely well, both of you. It would be interesting to see, if you didn't reveal that two people were writing it if people would not notice any difference in voice.

freefall means, no outline. We are writing on the fly and learning what happens as we go.
now you have to go back and read my edited post, Kevin. :)

lol. i did. and answered.
Kim: freefall...we are just reading the previous chapter and jumping in and writing the next. no outline...no discussion between us really.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, it's about damn time you're back at it. The last thing I knew, you burned down a garage or something, almost killed someone, two kids were breaking up and there was the third wheel doing something or another.
And you left me sitting here wondering what's going to happen to the grocery store.
Okay. I'm back and I'm back in. I'll be catching up over the next couple of days.

So do you like it?hmmm.....let me see now ;)
...of course I did. Why else would I be tapping and wondering what to do now that I've read everything that's written. ;)
I did leave a few comments on a couple chapters. Some of the imagery is just breathtaking. Very evocative and it translates into my own experiences.
By Chapter 10, it's hard to remember who's writing, your styles are blending together so well.
Thanks, Kim!
Can I *tap, tap* too? (-;

I've finished Chapter 11. Kevin has to review and approve before I post. It'll be posted soon though. Sorry for the delay. It was a harder chapter to write than I imagined.

It's posted.

YAY! I just happened to be online when you sent it, Trish...I was out for the rest of the night. Good timing! It's a great chapter. I love where you left it. The ideas have been brewing...

It really was quite the stroke of luck you were online when I finished it. :)
(and sorry about the commas - I saw you caught a few punctuation errors - I was excited to be finished, read through it a few times and fixed sentences, word choices, etc, but totally missed them. Too excited to be done with it I think.)
Hello ALL...
Whoever was originally into reading the novel Trish and I have been creating...I have news. I am re-reading what we wrote to date and will be writing the next chapter in the next week or so.
I apologize for throwing us off the rails again...man! Life really does interrupt sometimes!
If you haven't started reading yet...or if you want to catch up before the latest chapter is posted...you'll find links in this thread.
STAY TUNED FOR CHAPTER 12!
For those unfamiliar:
Trish wrote the odd chapters and I wrote the even ones...without discussing anything. We just wrote from where the other one left off. It's a freefall novel collaboration.
Well, this is a fine howdoyoudo!
Trish & I took down our co-written almost-a-novel blog. But we haven't given up on it. We decided to write it out of the public eye. I was the one who let this one fall. I feel bad...I kept promises and promising the next chapter. But life got in the way. I've always been passionate about this story and these characters. I wrote a blog post about it this morning.
We are going to write it offline, the same way--her writing a chapter and me writing the next chapter, etc. We will not discuss it at all...as was the case with the first 11 chapters. We just read the previous chapter and leapt off from it. I am currently writing chapter 12. I will send it to Trish, then she will send me chapter 13, etc. I'm really excited...because I really think this book is worthy of something. If I don't sabotage it again. (-: We will let you know if we finish it. Because then, we will be searching for publication. (-;

The blog post I wrote today:
YOURS, MINE... OURS (http://kevintcraig.wordpress.com/2011/11/30/yours-mine-ours/)
OMG! It was May 2008 when we started this novel, Trish!!! Holy. Those who were reading it must have gotten pretty peeved! It's my fault, folks...not Trish's. (-;

if you didn't know who wrote which chapter numbers, it'd be hard to tell between us, wouldn't it?
