All in all, that is something to write down as weird...reminds me of the guy who shot at his brother in law when he believed the bil killed his sister, and the bullet hit a tree. Years later, the brother in law is sawing down the tree and the stray bullet is hit with the chainsaw and lodges into his chest, killing him instantly. I'm still wondering if that was a real story or an urban legend.
For some reason, I thought cannonballs were fired at objects, people...I didn't think they had any firepower in the thing itself. I should really read up on this stuff.

Old cannon balls were merely projectiles. By civil war era they were designed to explode on impact.
