Beginning June 1, 2017, Contemporary Lit will host a quarterly book discussion. Books will include fiction and nonfiction. The criteria for selection will be: that the book was published after January 1, 1945, that the book has strong characterization and/or strong cultural elements for exploration, and/or that the book has strong merit in the use of language. Expect the quarterly selections to include all genres.

First up is's May 2017 selection, the Hugo Award Winning A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernon Vinge. A free download of the book is available at Tor. com until May 15, 2017, at 11:59 p.m. (U.S. Eastern Time). It is also available for Kindle on Amazon.
